PHILANTHROPY

Alpha Sigma Alpha deeply values its philanthropic commitments, recognizing them as integral to its mission of fostering community and social responsibility. Nationally, we support Girls on the Run, Special Olympics, and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation, while locally, we are dedicated to Willow and Ignite. We actively contribute by raising funds, organizing on campus events, and participating in actives hosted by these philanthropic organizations, highlighting our commitment to making a positive impact.

Willow provides comprehensive services to domestic violence survivors, offering shelter, advocacy, and support to help them rebuild their lives. Ignite focuses on assisting hard of hearing and deaf women, providing accessible resources and community support to help them thrive independently. Through our partnership with these organizations, we make a meaningful impact on women's lives in our community.

We proudly support Willow and Ignite through active participation and dedicated events. Our members join the Willow Walk in downtown Rochester, raising awareness for domestic abuse and showing solidarity with survivors. Additionally, we hosted our inaugural Willow Week, spreading awareness about domestic violence, raising funds, collecting donations, and educating the RIT community. Through these efforts, we support the invaluable work of Willow and Ignite.

Special Olympics

Special Olympics empowers individuals with intellectual disabilities through sports, offering year-round training and competitions that foster fitness, courage, and joy. Beyond athletics, it champions community, inclusion, and acceptance, reshaping perceptions worldwide. We support Special Olympics by hosting several on-campus events, including our signature "Plunge a Tiger" where students and faculty have the chance to dunk volunteers into a pool of cold water. This engaging event not only raises funds but also creates a fun and memorable way to contribute to the cause. Additionally, we demonstrate our commitment by braving the cold every January to participate in the Polar Plunge at Lake Ontario, a challenging yet rewarding event that highlights our dedication and solidarity. Through these efforts, we make a positive impact in our community and contribute to the mission of Special Olympics.

Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization that empowers young girls through a comprehensive program combining physical activity with life skills development. Designed for girls in grades 3-8, the program integrates running with lessons on confidence, character, and resilience. Participants train for a 5K event while engaging in activities that foster teamwork, healthy habits, and self-esteem. By promoting both physical and emotional well-being, Girls on the Run inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and navigate life with confidence and joy. We feel strongly about supporting Girls on the Run, as several of our sisters participated in the program as kids and have experienced its positive impact firsthand. Our members make cards with encouraging messages and create bracelets to inspire the girls. Additionally, we volunteer at their events, taking on roles such as coaching, assisting with logistics, and helping to create race day boxes. Through these efforts, we proudly contribute to the positive impact Girls on the Run has on young girls' lives and love to help them however we can

Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation

The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation is dedicated to supporting the educational, leadership, and philanthropic initiatives of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority members. By providing scholarships, grants, and funding for leadership programs, the foundation empowers sisters to achieve their academic and personal goals. We love supporting our sisters both within and beyond our chapter, and we actively contribute to the foundation by raising money through food fundraisers. Additionally, we have experienced firsthand the impact of the foundation's support by attending Alpha Sigma Alpha national leadership events like the Leadership Development Institute (LDI). These experiences enrich our lives and strengthen our commitment to helping our sisters succeed and make a positive impact in their communities.

SERVICE

Alpha Sigma Alpha loves service and takes great pride in donating our time to others, striving to make a positive impact both on and off campus. We actively participate in a variety of service events and even dedicate a full week in October to volunteering our time to all different kinds of service. By collaborating enthusiastically with both Greek and non-Greek organizations, we always seek to make the most of every opportunity to give back to the community.

Service

Here at our Alpha Sigma Alpha chapter, we value community service as a core priority, reflecting our commitment to making a positive impact. We actively participate in a variety of service events, including collaborations with the Pet Adoption Network, Relay for Life, and open events on the RIT campus. Additionally, we seek to partner with other Greek and Non-Greek organizations to amplify our efforts. As a chapter, we love to give back to our community in any way we can, dedicating our time and energy to causes that make a difference.

We love committing ourselves to service so much that we even separated our Service and Giving positions into two separate positions so we could ensure both will get our complete devoted attention!
